BOTOX® is the world’s leading anti-wrinkle
treatment brand* and has been used for over 20
years for aesthetic treatments in New Zealand.

Your questions, answered.

BOTOX® is a non-surgical treatment, indicated for temporary treatment of glabellar (frown) lines, crow’s feet lines and forehead lines in adults.

Administered only by healthcare practitioners, BOTOX® is a prescription-only medication.

A small amount of BOTOX® is injected into specific facial muscles with a very fine needle - smoothing the skin by relaxing the facial muscles that cause wrinkles and lines when you smile or frown.

If you have no further treatments, the muscles return to normal and lines gradually go back to how they looked before treatment.

At your initial consultation, your treating healthcare practitioner will discuss your goals, medical history and perform a facial analysis to determine if you are suitable for treatment and the appropriate treatment areas for you. If your practitioner determines that you are suitable for treatment, BOTOX® treatment may take place on that same day.

BOTOX® targets one of the underlying causes of frown lines, crow’s feet, and forehead lines - the repeated muscle contractions from frowning, squinting, smiling, and raising the eyebrows over the years. Your practitioner will inject these muscles with BOTOX® to temporarily reduce muscle activity.

Learn How BOTOX® Works

At your initial consultation, your healthcare practitioner will have discussed with you what to expect following your BOTOX® treatment. You may begin to notice results within 24 to 48 hours for moderate to severe frown lines. Full results are visible in 7-14 days.

The overall procedure is relatively quick and requires minimal downtime. You can return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your practitioner’s office.

The effects of treatments usually last up to 4 months and gradually decrease over time.

Regular BOTOX® treatments may help results last longer and may help to reduce static wrinkles. To maintain results, consult with your healthcare practitioner and book a BOTOX® treatment for 4 months’ time.

Some patients report that being injected with BOTOX® feels like a pinch. Your practitioner may use ice to numb the treatment area.

After your BOTOX® treatment avoid rubbing or massaging the treated area. You can resume normal activities immediately and it’s important to follow any post-treatment instructions your healthcare practitioner gives you.

For the majority of aesthetic patients, any side effects are temporary and limited to where BOTOX® was injected.

Possible side effects include pain, burning or stinging; bruising, swelling or redness at the injection site; local muscle weakness including drooping eyelids or eyebrows; swollen eyelids and skin tightness; tingling sensations, itching or aching forehead; headaches, nausea and flu-like symptoms.

The truth is everyone's facial lines form differently.

BOTOX® is indicated for the treatment of upper facial lines for cosmetic use from the age of 18. Whenever your lines start, consult with your healthcare practitioner. They can help you determine if treatment is suitable for you.

There is no such thing as a “generic” form of BOTOX®.

BOTOX® has a one-of-a-kind formulation that is not interchangeable with other botulinum toxins. Used for over 20 years for aesthetic treatments in New Zealand, BOTOX® is the most widely researched and studied treatment of its kind.+

Finally, Allergan Aesthetics, an AbbVie company, the maker of BOTOX® owns the entire manufacturing and packaging process, which helps ensure the reliability and safety of each vial.
